Double-sided medals are usually more expensive than single-sided medals. Double-sided medals require more materials, time and production steps than single-sided ones, and at the same time, more labor time is required to complete the processing

Double-sided medals can display more content, such as text, logos, brands, sponsors, etc. When the information you want to display on a single-sided medal cannot be placed, you can consider the double-sided. The back can be achieved through engraving, laser or UV printing etc.

When the custom medal is mainly hung or displayed on one side (for example, wall display, at most award ceremonies, the winner will hold the medal briefly, and the single-sided medal is an ideal choice; When the medal may be touched, turned over or carefully examined (such as for collection), double-sided medals can provide a heavier and higher-end texture and better experience

Choosing the right medal size is important for both visual impact and practicality. Our most popular is 70mm medal, it strikes the ideal balance between appearance and value, with enough weight and a professional look at an affordable price. This commonly used size is ideal for custom sports medals, company awards and ceremonial displays, making it the first choice for 90% of events.
For wearable badges and collectible medals, we will recommend a smaller size(approximately 40 to 50 mm). The lightweight design makes them easy to attach to clothing during ceremonies, while also fitting into standard award boxes for easy storage. This practical size is ideal for company recognition programs and military challenge badges.
When creating children's medals, the 60mm medal size is child-sized. This child-friendly size ensures that young awardees will not feel uncomfortable around the neck when wearing it at school competitions, youth sports events and Scout activities, and it will not be too large to weigh down smaller children. 
For medals that require a real feel, larger medal sizes over 80mm provide more real showing space. These heavier medals are better able to display fine details, allowing more room for custom engraved text, detailed brand and design. While material costs increase by approximately 15% for every additional 10mm of size, they provide memorable medal art for important events.      

Finding the Right Medal Thickness: Quality, Cost & Design Requirements Explained Simply
For most awards, 3mm thickness is the popular choice. It gives medals a solid, quality feel while keeping costs reasonable. This standard thickness works well for classic round or shaped medals.
Some special medal designs need extra thickness:
1. Spinning medals require at least 3.5mm thickness for the outer frame because they need space for the rotating pin hardware.
2. Multi-part medals (like slide-open or flip-style medals) need 3.5-4mm thickness for the base layer to hold screws or connectors  properly.
3. 3D design medals should start at 4mm thickness. Thicker metal makes the raised details stand out better, creating a stronger 3D look.
Choosing thicker metal (3.5-4mm+) adds about 10% material cost per 0.5mm increase, but ensures your special design works perfectly.

Our standard ribbon length fits most awards perfectly. For children's medals (60-70mm size), we recommend 20mm or 25mm wide ribbons at the classic 863mm length. This proportional width keeps the medal centered when wearing, while the shorter length ensures safe, comfortable neck fit for young achievers.
Adults typically need longer ribbons for ideal display. Pair 70-80mm medals with 25mm wide, 900mm long ribbons - the extra length allows the award to sit neatly over clothing. For larger 90mm+ medals, upgrade to 30mm or 38mm wide ribbons at 900mm length. The increased width balances substantial medals beautifully, while maintaining comfortable wear for ceremonies.

UV printing medal can restore 98% of the color and details of the picture, and can achieve complex gradient colors and tiny text. The printed pattern is not easy to scratch or fade.

Hard enamel medal has a glass-like texture, with good luster and high color saturation reproduction. It also has excellent wear resistance. For customers who require long-lasting color retention of the medal, this option can be considered.
